定义

相对概念，与“绝对概念”相对，是反映具有某种关系的事物的概念。“一个相对概念所反映的事物的属性总是与另一个概念所反映的事物的属性相比较而存在的”。相对概念反映着具有确定关系的一组事物，相对概念总是彼此相对应而存在的，比如，“原因”与“结果”、“高”与“低”、“胖”与“瘦”、“前”与“后”、“左”与“右”、“大”与“小”、“福”与“祸”等等。运用相对概念时必须和同之有相对关系的概念一起使用，不能孤立使用。这样我们知道相对概念中两者的关系是不能够单独存在的，反映的事物的属性总是与另一个概念所反映的事物的属性相比较而存在的相对概念，说明了如果没有其中的一方，那么另一方也便不存在；一方不存在，那么另一方也就无从比较，这就是相对概念的相对性。因此，我们在理解事物的时候，不能够忽略所比较对象的相对性，否则往往将会会导致逻辑错误（金炳华，2003：582-583）。例如，我们在说“这个小姑娘长的真漂亮”，那么这里的“小”就是相对于其他“大”姑娘来说的，“漂亮”同时也是相对于“丑陋”来讲的。假如将这个姑娘和老鼠比较，那么姑娘再小也比大老鼠大，所以一定要认清楚比较对象的相对性，保持逻辑上的清晰。
