定义

亦称“辨学”，有两种含义：（1）辩学指先秦时期以论辩的一般思维过程(“辩”)及辩说形式、方法、法则等为对象的学问。由于辩学涉及名实关系问题颇多，也有人称之为“名辩学”。研究辩学的人被称为“辩者”或“辩士”。《汉书·艺文志》列辩者为名家。实际上从事辩学研究的重要学派还有墨家，此外儒、道、法、阴阳诸家也多涉辩学。秦汉以后辩学日趋衰微。其重要著作有《墨辩》、《公孙龙子》、《荀子·正名》等。（2）“逻辑学”的早期译名。辩学涉及诸多逻辑问题，故有人将英文“逻辑学”(logic)意译为“辩学”（方克立，1994：743）。如1896年，英国来华传教士艾约瑟将英国逻辑学家耶方斯(W．S．Jevons)所著Primer of Logic译为《辨学启蒙》。1908年，王国维将耶方斯的另一部逻辑著作Elementary Lesson in Logic：Deductive and Inductive译作《辨学》出版（曾祥云，2009：98）。
