为人民服务，指“为人民的利益而工作的思想和行为”，是中国共产党的根本宗旨，共产主义道德的核心，无产阶级评价人们的行为是否道德的最根本的标准。毛泽东在《为人民服务》一文中提到，“我们的共产党和共产党所领导的八路军、新四军，是革命的队伍。我们这个队伍完全是为着解放人民的，是彻底地为人民的利益工作的”，“因为我们是为人民服务的，所以，我们如果有缺点，就不怕别人指出。不管是什么人，谁向我们指出都行。只要你说得对，我们就改正。你说的办法对人民有好处，我们就照你的办”（毛泽东，1991：1004）。1942年，毛泽东同志发表了《在延安文艺座谈会上的讲话》。他说：“我们的文艺应当‘为千千万万劳动人民服务’”（毛泽东，1991：854）, 同时还指出：“为什么人的问题，是一个根本的问题，原则的问题”（毛泽东，1991：857）。1956年，邓小平在《马列主义要与中国的实际情况相结合》中指出：“中国共产党员的含意或任务，如果用概括的语言来说，只有两句话：全心全意为人民服务，一切以人民利益作为每一个党员的最高准绳”（邓小平，1994：257）。江泽民曾指出：“我们党在不同历史时期的工作重点和具体任务会随着情况的变化而变化，但是党的工人阶级先锋队的性质、党的全心全意为人民服务的宗旨、党的奋斗目标，是始终不能变的”（江泽民，1995年7月1日：第一版）。胡锦涛在2007年《高举中国特色社会主义伟大旗帜，为夺取全面建设小康社会新胜利而奋斗》的讲话中提到，“必须坚持以人为本。全心全意为人民服务是党的根本宗旨，党的一切奋斗和工作都是为了造福人民。要始终把实现好、维护好、发展好最广大人民的根本利益作为党和国家一切工作的出发点和落脚点，尊重人民主体地位，发挥人民首创精神，保障人民各项权益，走共同富裕道路，促进人的全面发展，做到发展为了人民、发展依靠人民、发展成果由人民共享”（中共中央文献研究室，2009：12）。习近平也对全心全意为人民服务作了重要论述，他强调，“为民服务，就是要做人民公仆，忠诚于人民，以人民忧乐为忧乐，以人民甘苦为甘苦，全心全意为人民服务”（习近平，2016：109）。2001年9月，中共中央在《公民道德建设实施纲要》中指出，“社会主义道德建设要坚持以为人民服务为核心”。将为人民服务作为社会主义道德体系的核心，是社会主义道德区别和优越于其他道德的显著标志，是社会主义市场经济健康的本质要求（龙静云，2016：111-112）。全心全意为人民服务是我们党始终得到人民拥护和爱戴的根本原因，对于充分发挥党密切联系群众的优势至关重要。
