定义

德国尼采用语，与“主动虚无主义”相对，指由于物质生活高涨引起的精神衰落。尼采认为，19世纪的欧洲表面上物质方面获得了长足进展，但它脱离了“生命”之源，“真实世界”或“上帝”这种最高价值和目标最终成为“虚构”和“错误”。人们处在一种无目标、无标准的状态，体现被动虚无主义的胜利。被动虚无主义默认没有价值标准的悲观主义，赞赏荒谬和生命固有的无意义，标志着精神力量的衰落和倒退，使人们逐渐抛弃“彼岸”而珍惜“尘世”。它表明欧洲堕落的基督教文明将最终被推翻，人们正处在价值转换和新黎明的前夜。认为人们要冲破黑暗，尚需一个目标，这个目标就是超人（朱贻庭，2011：662）。
