定义
无弹性需求，又称“需求无弹性”、“零需求弹性”。西方经济学认为某种货物购买率变化比例小于引起购买数量变化的价格变化。某种商品需求缺乏弹性时，就需要降低价格以提高购买量。需求弹性的计算方法，是用价格的百分比变化除以购买率的百分比变化（刘建明,1993:417）。
其经济定义是：某种商品购买量变化的比率要小于引起该商品购买量变化的比率。对于无弹性需求而言，价格变化的幅度要高于购买量变化的幅度。与此同时，我们也可以将弹性数值为l的需求称为单位弹性需求，弹性数值大于1的需求称为单位弹性需求，弹性数值大于1的需求称为富有弹性需求。经济生活中不乏有无弹性需求商品的例子（刘伟等,1994:63）。
一般说来，凡是在生活中必需得到不可，欲望非常强烈，但得到之后又很容易满足的物品，如大米、蔬菜等生活必需品，人们对它们的需求通常比较稳定。因此，这一类物品的需求量受价格和收入变动的影响变小。对这一类物品的需求，就称为无弹性需求。无弹性需求表明，当某种商品的需求缺乏弹性时，就需要有一个比较大的价格变动。在这种情况下，提价所增加的销售收入将大于需求量收缩所减少的销售收入，从而使厂商总销售收入增加。凡是属于无弹性需求的物品，其销售收入与价格沿着同一方向运动; 提价时收入增加，降价时收入减少（刘诗白,2000:199-200）。
