英国拉卡托斯用语，指保护研究纲领硬核的辅助性假说。按照著名哲学家拉卡托斯的观点，任何科学理论都是由“硬核”与“辅助保护带”所共同构成的完整思想体系。其中，“硬核”是该理论体系最基本的理论公设和根本性主张，体现了该学说的精髄和实质，构成该学说的基石，具有不可反驳性。而“辅助保护带”则是运用“硬核”这一“理论公设”具体分析现实问题所得出的具体结论，而现实本身是流动的、变化的。因此，“辅助保护带”也应根据现实的变化适时作出相应的调整，以更好地保护其“硬核”（王学荣，2014：76）。科学家应竭尽一切可能不让硬核遭受经验事实即实际的观察材料的反驳。当经验事实反驳研究纲领的硬核时，保护带就主动地把经验反驳的矛头从硬核引向自身，让构成这个保护带的辅助性假设来承担错误的责任，并通过修改、调整甚至全部替换这些辅助性假设来保护硬核（金炳华，2003：393）。
