《詹姆斯·穆勒〈政治经济学原理〉一书摘要》是马克思于1844年在巴黎研究政治经济学时所作的一份笔记。第一次发表于《马克思恩格斯全集》1932年国际版第1部分第3卷。中文译本收在《马克思恩格斯全集》第42卷。在这篇摘要中，马克思主要摘录了以下几个方面的内容：1、论生产。2、论分配。其中包括地租、工资、利润等。3、论交换。4、论消费。此外，还有马克思为这些摘要所写的评述。从摘录的内容和马克思的评述来看，马克思已经认识到价值由生产费用决定的规律只有在不断的变化和扬弃中才能实现。马克思深刻地分析了资本主义条件下的信用业的实质及其异化问题。《摘要》中，马克思从社会关系的角度阐述了异化问题，并从异化的角度探讨了私有制下劳动的性质。马克思还考察了私有财产的外化问题，认为，所谓人和私有财产本身的外化，就是私有财产的丧失和放弃。产生这种现象的原因是贫困和需要。在资本主义私有权范围内，私有者的社会联系表现为私有财产的相互外化。《摘要》中，马克思还提出，交换关系的前提是劳动成为直接谋生的劳动，当这种谋生的劳动随着需要向多方面发展和劳动者生产的产品向单方面发展的时候，劳动就愈加成为谋生的劳动（廖盖隆，1993：772）。
