定义

历史必然性也就是历史发展的客观规律性，指历史事件或历史过程的决定性、不可避免性、不可改变性。“历史必然性”与“历史偶然性”相对。历史是由具有一定的主观目的、从事实践活动的人创造的，但人们的动机与意向是相互交错的，在所有这样的社会里，“都是那种以偶然性为其补充和表现形式的必然性占统治地位。在这里通过各种偶然性而得到实现的必然性，归根到底仍然是经济的必然性”（中共中央编译局，2012：733）。历史必然性根源于社会的物质生活过程，而物质生产方式的发展又构成历史过程中最基本的必然联系。每一代人都只能在既定的、不容选择的生产力和生产关系状况的条件下从事活动，他们的活动改变了生产力和生产关系的状况，为下一代人造就了活动的新的基础。历史事件的发生总是先前的全部历史状况的必然结果，整个历史过程是被决定的（金炳华，2003：274）。历史必然性是客观的，但却与自然界的客观必然性不一样。历史必然性的表现和实现要以人的有意识的活动为必要的条件或手段。历史必然性有其绝对的一面，即它是客观的，人们可以认识和利用它以获得解放与自由，但不能脱离或取消它；同时，历史必然性又有其相对的一面，人们可以通过改变自己的活动，改变历史必然性发生作用的条件来改变其表现形式、发生范围等，从而改变历史事件的外貌，对历史过程起加速或延缓作用（金炳华等，2001：830）。否认历史的客观必然性，会导向唯心主义的历史观；否认历史偶然性，会导向历史宿命论。历史必然性通过丰富的特殊而存在，不会表现为“纯粹的一般”；历史必然性不是预成的，它必须通过人们的实践活动生成和实现。
