定义

“生活”一词是集合概念，指的是各种相关活动的总和。党内生活（党的生活）指的就是党内各种相关活动的总和。党内生活不包括党员纯属私人性质的活动。政党所固有的特性决定党内生活具有鲜明的政治性，事关党的生存和发展大局。目前国内理论界和实际工作者对党内生活（或党的生活）)明确给出定义的不多，比较有代表性的有如下几种：其一，共中央组织部研究室、组织局编写的《党的组织工作问答》提出，“从广义上讲，党内各种活动，都是党的生活”（中共中央组织部研究室、组织局，1983：199）。其二，卢先福在其主编的《党的作风建设读本》中认为，“党内生活是指在党的组织和党员中开展的各种教育、管理、监督等活动的总和”（卢先福，2001：213）。综合上述两种表述，也就理解了党内生活的基本内涵。简要地说，党内生活（党的生活），指的是马克思主义政党为了生存和发展而在党内各级组织和党员之中开展的各种活动的总和，包括党内各种学习教育、组织管理、民主选举、党内监督、开展批评和自我批评等政治活动。由此可见，党内生活具有鲜明的政治性、思想性、组织性、纪律性等特征（何克祥，2014：41）。
