客里空比喻不切实际、与事实差距较大，或凭空捏造。“客里空”源于苏联作家柯涅楚克（又译科尔内楚克）著名剧本《前线》中的人物，1942年，在《前线》中，作者用了大量篇幅笔墨塑造了第二次世界大战中前线总指挥官戈尔洛夫和继任者欧格涅夫。在剧本里，作者用讽刺的笔法，刻画了客里空不上前线，不深入部队，每天呆在前线总指挥部里，信口开河、弄虚作假，“创造”新闻。1944年，《前线》先后在我军许多部队演出，延安《解放日报》在一篇评《前线》的社论中，批判了客里空，要大家引以为戒。当时，在党的新闻工作者当中展开了反对“客里空”的热烈讨论。1947年，反“客里空”运动开始，“客里空”才逐渐成为新闻界一个专门术语，成为典型。1947年6月15日，《晋绥日报》选登了《前线》中有关客里空出场的部分，并出现对不同涵义的“客里空”的分析，以增加对这个典型的认识。主要包括以下三个方面：（1）不真实的新闻通讯或写不真实新闻的人；（2）浮夸、粗枝大叶、不负责的思想作风；（3）与事实不符的现象（孔德芳，2002：7-8）。
