经济全球化是指世界经济活动超越国界，通过对外贸易、资本流动、技术转移、提供服务、相互依存、相互联系而形成的全球范围的有机经济整体，即贸易、投资、金融、生产等活动的全球化，生存要素在全球范围内的最佳配置。经济全球化这个词最早是由T·莱维于1985年提出的，至今没有一个公认的定义。国际货币基金组织（IMF）认为：“经济全球化是指跨国商品与服务贸易及资本流动规模和形式的增加，以及技术的广泛迅速传播使世界各国经济的相互依赖性增强”（via：http://baike.so.com/doc/4963549-5185703.html）。经济全球化是当代世界经济的重要特征之一，也是世界经济发展的重要趋势。从根源上说是生产力和国际分工的高度发展，要求进一步跨越民族和国家疆界的产物。经济全球化是一个不以人的主观意志为转移的客观进程，世界各国的体制趋同、跨国公司全球性的套利活动、以及信息技术的革命等，为经济全球化发展提供了符合逻辑的解释（华民，2007：66）。经济全球化，有利于资源和生产要素在全球的合理配置，有利于资本和产品在全球性流动，有利于科技在全球性的扩张，有利于促进不发达地区经济的发展，是人类发展进步的表现，是世界经济发展的必然结果。经济全球化已显示出强大的生命力，并对世界各国经济、政治、军事、社会、文化等所有方面，甚至包括思维方式等，都造成了巨大的冲击。经济全球化是把双刃剑，既可以造福一方，也能为祸无穷，这是一场深刻的革命，任何国家也无法回避，唯一的办法是如何去适应它，积极参与经济全球化，在历史大潮中接受检验。
