定义

中华民族由中华人民共和国政府官方定义为中华人民共和国境内获得认定的以汉族为主体的56个民族的统称，也是海外华人的统称。 “中华民族”一词是由历史悠久的“中华”一词和近代以来由西方传入之“民族”一词相互结合而成的。梁启超，杨度和章太炎等人，是较早使用“中华民族”一词的先驱。中华民族并不是单纯的民族、种族、公民的人群分类概念，并非社会学和人类学意义上，具有相同血系、语言、住所、习惯、宗教、精神体系的真正民族，而仅仅是一个政治概念。中华民族并不符合马克思主义对民族的定义，并没有“共同语言、共同文化和共同心理素质”，仅仅指国家共同体。
中华民族在几千年的历史发展中，以其灿烂的文化和繁荣的经济著称于世。有素称发达的农业和手工业，以及举世名的四大发明——指南针、造纸术、活字印刷和火药的应用。产生过许多伟大的思想家、科学家、发明家、政治家、军事家、文学家和艺术家。在历史上，各民族之间虽然曾经互相侵扰和攻伐，出现过民族压迫和剥削，但始终存在着逐步接近、互相依存、友好合作、共同前进的关系，并成为中国民族关系中的主流。中华民族具有光荣的革命传统。为反抗阶级压迫、民族压迫和外国侵略，各民族人民都进行了不屈不挠的斗争。劳动人民的共同利益，促使各民族的劳动者联合反抗阶级压迫。至近代，中华民族与殖民主义、帝国主义列强的矛盾逐渐成为中国社会的主要矛盾，反殖、反帝的共同目标和寻求民族解放的共同命运进一步把各民族紧密地团结成一个坚强整体，各少数民族和汉族一起进行了英勇顽强的持续斗争。1911年，孙中山领导的辛亥革命，推翻了清王朝，结束了持续两千多年的封建帝制。但半殖民地半封建社会的性质并没有变。1921年中国共产党成立后，各族人民反抗剥削压迫和外国侵略的斗争进入到一个崭新阶段，成为世界无产阶级革命的组成部分，经过北伐战争、土地革命战争、抗日战争和解放战争四个时期，终于推翻了帝国主义、封建主义、官僚资本主义三座大山，取得新民主主义革命的伟大胜利，建立了中华人民共和国，废除了民族压迫制度，实现了民族平等团结。在少数民族聚居地区实行民族区域自治，各族人民先后完成了民主改革和社会主义改造。1978年中国共产党十一届三中全会以来，经过拨乱反正，各民族之间以平等、团结、互助为内容的新型的社会主义民族关系得到发展。（中华民族.via：http://baike.sogou.com/v62859.htm?fromTitle=%E4%B8%AD%E5%8D%8E%E6%B0%91%E6%97%8F）
