定义

自在自然指人类尚未认识到的那部分自然。与“人化自然”相对。它相对于人类的活动(包括认识自然和改造自然)，纯粹是“自在”的、“外在”的。包括人类目前尚未观测到的总星系之外的广袤无垠的宇观世界和基本粒子以下的未知的微观世界，以及构成人类生存环境的宏观世界中尚未被认识的自然事物。“自在自然”一经被人们的主观所把握或被人力所改造，便失去了纯粹“自在”、“外在”的性质，具有了新的作为认识对象或改造对象的规定，变成了“人化自然”。“自在自然”的基本规定性是它的自然属性，即由自然赋予的，与人无关。它离开人而独立存在，是非对象的自然、非现实的自然，对人是没有意义的。正如马克思所说，“被抽象地孤立地理解的、被固定为与人分离的自然界，对人说来也是无”(《马克思恩格斯全集》第42卷第178页)。（金炳华，2003：376）
