定义

原始公社是指以生产资料原始公社所有制为基础的社会，即原始社会。原始公社是人类历史上最初的社会形态。始于人类的产生，终于奴隶制的形成，延续三百余万年之久。在原始公社中，由于生产工具以石器为主十分简陋，人们的劳动技能低下，人们没有能力单独生存。无论是狩猎、御兽、抵抗自然灾害、开垦土地、栽培作物，都需要共同劳动，人们依靠集体劳动，以采集天然食物和捕猎动物维持生存。这就决定了生产资料的共同占有制。人们共同劳动，只有按性别、年龄的自然分工。由于生产力水平极低，几乎没有剩余产品，因而只能实行平均分配，因而没有私有财产，没有剥削和阶级，也没有国家。社会组织最初是松散的原始群，经历母系氏族和父系氏族两个阶段后，随着对偶婚和一夫一妻制的逐步形成，产生了按血缘关系建立起来的氏族公社，它成为原始公社基本的社会组织和经济组织。生产资料公有、集体劳动和平均分配，便是原始公社经济制度的基本特征。“在氏族之上还有胞族、部族、部落联盟等社会组织。生产力的发展，引起人类历史上第一次社会大分工，即游牧部落从其他部落中分离出来。”（金炳华，2003：320）原始公社末期，随着金属工具的应用，生产力进一步发展，引起第二次社会大分工，即手工业从农业中分离出来。而随着手工业从农业中分离出来，社会生产力获得很大的发展，原始公社随之消失。
