定义

单子是标志存在的结构与实体的单元的哲学术语，源于希腊文monas。各派哲学家对它有不同的解释，如毕达哥拉斯学派最早使用单子，意指数的系列的第一个数，他提出“万物皆数”，而一是数的系列的第一个数，作为由数派生的万物皆产生于作为“一”的单子。意大利布鲁诺认为单子是构成一切事物的最小单位，它是物质与精神的统一体，具有内在的创造力。其中主要影响的是德国莱布尼茨（G. W. Leibniz，1646—1716），他认为单子不具有广延性和量的规定性，因此是真正不可分的单元，是构成世界万物的基础。它是一种没有部分、不占空间的东西，是一种精神性的实体。单子有高低的不同，最高级的单子就是上帝。莱布尼茨把单子看作与灵魂一样的精神实体，具有“知觉”或“欲望”，这种“知觉”的清晰或晦暗的程度不同，造成了单子之间质的千差万别。一个知觉变化或过渡到另一个知觉的内在原则的活动，就是“欲望”，“欲望”驱使单子内部连续不断地变化。单子在其自身之内具有完满性和自足性，是一个自主的小世界（尉利工，1999：28-31）。
