Zhijing Pipa (lute with straight neck)

定义

直颈琵琶。音箱窄长，呈锥形，琴头直形，有尖头形的，也有方头形的。与曲颈琵琶形成强烈对比。史书上虽未见有直颈琵琶的记载，但敦煌壁画的北魏、西魏、北周、隋、唐、五代等时代的洞窟中频繁出现，大量运用，可与曲颈琵琶相媲美。直颈琵琶最早出现在北魏石窟中，之后，西魏、北周、隋、唐等石窟多有出现。

It has a cone-shaped long and narrow sound box with either sharp or square head. The straight neck is in sharp contrast to the curved neck of Qujing Pipa(lute with curved neck). Though there is no written recording of Zhijing Pipa, but it is frequented in caves of the Northern Wei Dynasty, the Western Wei Dynasty, the Northern Zhou Dynasty, the Sui Dynasty, the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties, which is comparable to Qujing Pipa. Zhijing Pipa firstly appeared in the grottoes of Northern Wei Dynasty, and then appeared in grottoes of the Western Wei Dynasty, the Northern Zhou Dynasty, the Sui Dynasty, the Tang Dynasty and etc.
