定义

标准意识有时也被称为“普遍意识”。德国文德尔班使用该词来指按照普遍的价值标准（价值规范）对对象进行评价的意识。“文德尔班认为，一切价值命题都是表示主体对于对象的一种评价。但进行这种评价的主体的意识不是作为心理学意义上的特殊的意识，而是具有普遍性意义的意识，这种意识与普遍的价值标准相对立，是一种标准意识。人们依靠标准意识才能按照普遍的价值标准对实际经验（对象）进行评价，才可按照思维、意志和情感的标准，把在康德那里被分裂开来的逻辑学、伦理学、美学统一起来”（冯契，徐孝通，2000：590）。文德尔班把标准意识称为哲学的真正前提，认为它是对意志和情感全部经验进行评价的绝对中心。他认为，实际意愿与理想标准相符合的意识就是标准意识，有了它，就可以把价值标准运用于衡量一切实际经验，从而构造全部哲学体系。在文德尔班那里，自然科学和社会历史科学的区分，实际上是对事实与价值、事实知识与价值知识的区分的具体表现。“自然科学是研究事实世界的科学，自然科学的概念属于事实知识，而社会历史科学则研究价值世界，属于价值知识。因此文德尔班把自然科学称之为‘制定规律的’科学”（王永鸿，周成华，2012：161）。
