社会主义建设规律，是把社会主义建设活动当做课题来研究，揭示建设过程中诸要素以及诸环节之间客观的、内在的、本质的必然联系。贯穿其中最基本、最本质、最核心的是发展问题，“经济领域的最终决定作用、非经济领域的反作用以及非经济领域之间的相互制衡，是发展规律的本质规定”（史历，2007: 155）。社会主义的产生和发展经历了一个由空想到科学以及由理论到实践的过程，在这一发展过程中，共产党人对什么是社会主义、怎样建设社会主义进行了坚持不懈的探索，这两个根本性问题就是对社会主义建设规律的认识问题（百度百科）。1956年社会主义改造基本完成后，形成了关于社会主义矛盾理论和建设社会主义工业化的思想，这一时期的理论探索，丰富了中国特色社会主义现代化建设规律的认识，有力的指导了社会主义建设活动。邓小平深刻总结了新中国成立以来正反两方面的经验，把党和国家的工作重点转移到经济建设上来，提出了社会主义本质理论、社会主义初级阶段理论和改革开放理论，进一步深化了对社会主义建设规律的认识。江泽民多次论述了社会主义社会是以经济建设为重点的全面发展、全面进步的社会，要促进社会主义物质文明、政治文明、精神文明协调发展，促进人的全面发展。“三个代表”思想的形成，表明我们党对社会主义建设规律的认识达到了新高度。胡锦涛提出的科学发展观要求在探索社会主义发展规律时，必须坚持和贯彻这一重大战略思想，这是新时期对社会主义发展规律的最新认识。
