定义

经济决定论，一般等同于“经济唯物主义”，认为经济是社会发展中的唯一决定因素，决定社会历史发展进程、决定政治、思想等其他因素的发展变化，否定政治、思想等其他因素对社会历史发展的能动作用（金炳华，2003：277）。经济决定论是庸俗的机械的历史观和崇拜自发性的机会主义理论。德国社会民主党内的“青年派”及第二国际修正主义首领伯恩施坦、俄国的“合法马克思主义者”经济派、孟什维克等都是经济唯物主义的鼓吹者。他们歪曲马克思主义唯物史观，认为社会的发展只是经济发展的自然结果，把经济看作是社会发展过程中唯一起作用的因素，否认政治、思想、理论等在社会发展过程中的作用；宣扬工人运动的自发性，认为革命阶级不需要有组织、有领导地进行自觉的革命，新社会就会自然而然地随着经济的发展而产生；简单地用经济因素的自动作用解释复杂的社会现象和历史发展进程（via: http://baike.baidu.com/link?url=ZwqXvvxn7LTVtUkCj9_UULwmBCYdR-E-Amx-RHmYFCM4SJVGtHePxULHh9iWkhRGHuWwhalAMb3Y0zFcUxUZ-q）。恩格斯晚年曾对这种理论进行了深入批判，列宁也曾撰文批评俄国经济派的理论学说，其后，卢卡奇、葛兰西等马克思主义学者也分别从不同的角度对经济决定论进行了抨击。
