定义

本质论是黑格尔逻辑学的重要概念。本质论是指具体概念所包含的各个规定（环节）的展开或分化。黑格尔认为，现实作为直接表现出来的东西是本质与实存、内与外的同一，而本质作为映现在他物中且间接地表现出来的东西不能够直接地显露在外。本质是思维的对象，只有思维才能把握事物的本质，因而思维要透过直接性的东西深入到它的背后或内里，即以它物为中介。按照黑格尔的说法，本质是“思想的反思性或间接性”，而本质的观点则是关于反思的观点。以抽象的形式表现出概念是本质论的内容。本质论的概念发展经过三个阶段：本质自身、现象和现实。“本质自身是本质自身中概念的相互反思，表现为同一、差异、对立、矛盾、根据，到根据就不仅是自身反思，而且反思他物，就过渡到现象”（金炳华，2003：23）。
