《巴黎笔记》是马克思撰写的重要哲学作品，写于1843年至1845年。1842年马克思在担任《莱茵报》主编时，第一次遇到要对所谓物质利益发表意见的难事，这成为促使马克思去研究经济问题的最初动因。1843年3月《莱茵报》被查封后，马克思回到克罗茨纳赫对黑格尔法哲学进行批判性分析，得出的结论是：“法的关系正像国家的形式一样，既不能从它们本身来理解，也不能从所谓人类精神的一般发展来理解，它们根源于物质的生活关系，这种物质的生活关系的总和，黑格尔按照十八世纪的英国人和法国人的先例，称之为‘市民社会’，而对市民社会的解剖应该到政治经济学中去寻求”（中共中央编译局，1962：8）。于是，马克思在1843年10月移居巴黎后，就开始了对政治经济学的系统研究。在巴黎期间，马克思在很短的时间内阅读了许多资产阶级经济学家的著作，并写下了大量的摘录笔记，有些地方还加了自己的批注和详细评论。这些笔记被后来的研究者们称为“巴黎笔记”。 巴黎笔记包含三个不同的主题范围：（1）对各种各样的经济学家的著作的摘录构成主要部分。其中有4本笔记摘录了英国与法国的经济学文献，包括斯密、李嘉图、麦克库洛赫、穆勒、萨伊、特拉西等人的著作，1本摘录了德国经济学家舒兹、李斯特和奥锡安德的著作。这些经济学摘录与《1844年经济学哲学手稿》联系密切。（2）对勒瓦瑟尔和色诺芬著作的摘录以及对黑格尔《精神现象学》的摘要。历史学摘录与马克思打算撰写一部关于国民经济学的著作有关。（3）对毕莱《论英法工人阶级的贫困》的摘录，表现出马克思对社会主义和共产主义文献的关注。上述三个方面是彼此交错、相互补充的，是统一的有机整体，它们反映了马克思当时的理论兴趣所在及其来源。《巴黎笔记》摘录的内容主要以政治经济学为主，它涉及了许多重要的理论问题和经济范畴，它不仅直接为《1844年经济学哲学手稿》作了准备，而且也为马克思后来的经济学研究打下了基础。其中的一些摘录在马克思后来的许多重要著作中曾多处加以利用，一些思想也在后来的一些文章和著作中加以发挥、修改和完善（李淮春，1996：10）。
