具体化，亦称“重建”。语最初由波兰文艺理论家英伽登在他的《文学的艺术作品》中提出。他认为文学作品是纯粹的意向性的、受外界支配的对象，是一种未定性结构，有待于读者完成。因而读者的阅读过程主要作用就是消除或填补作品中的未定点。英伽登称这种过程为具体化行为（蒋风,1992：87）。具体化指艺术作品的纲要图式(即艺术作品包含的具有多种潜在可能性的骨架)的实现。认为由于艺术作品是一种“纲要图式”，其中包含了许多不确定的领域，有些成分和质素没有得到实现，处于潜在状态，因此一个艺术品需要一个存在于它本身之外的观赏者，通过在鉴赏时的合作性的创造活动即“具体化”，来充实作品的图式结构。具体化不仅是一种重建活动，也是作品本身的完成及其潜在要素的实现。在这种意义上可以说艺术作品是艺术家和观赏者共同的产品。具体化必定超过艺术作品的图式结构。它既取决于艺术作品，又取决于观赏者的主体能力。它需要一种审美态度，并在欣赏过程中产生“审美对象”。具体化同时还取决于各种历史条件，同一作品在不同的时代会以不同方式的具体化出现。这一概念对接受美学产生了重要影响（冯契等，2000：506）。
