逻辑真理，也称“形式真理”，与“事实真理”（即经验真理）相对，是指无须借助于感性经验而仅依靠一定逻辑系统的逻辑证明（即逻辑推理）即可判定其必然为真的真理（金炳华，2003：385）。在哲学史上，德国莱布尼茨在17世纪最早提出对逻辑真理与事实真理的区分。莱布尼茨在《单子论》中指出，真理有两种，一是推理的真理，一是事实的真理。推理的真理是必然的，这是因为事实的真理依赖于感觉经验，感觉只能提供个别的或特殊的真理，因而不足以建立真理的普遍必然性，推理的真理的反面是不可能的；事实的真理是偶然的，如纯数学中、特别是在算术和几何学中所见到的真理是必然的真理，即逻辑真理，逻辑真理的反面是可能的（彭漪涟，2010：9）。18世纪，英国休谟对观念的关系和事实这两类命题进行了严格区分。休谟在《人类理智研究》中指出，由直观而发现其确切性的命题，或由证明而发现其确切性的命题，属于观念的关系；这类只凭直观或证明就能发现其确切性的命题是必然命题。事实命题则不能用同样的方式加以确定。休谟对逻辑真理与事实真理作了进一步的区分（冯契，2007：345）。20世纪初期，奥地利维特根斯坦在《逻辑哲学论》中通过区分逻辑命题与非逻辑命题（即事实命题、经验命题）对这两类命题的真理性进行了具体分析，提出“逻辑命题是重言式”（金炳华，2003：385）。英国艾耶尔更明确清晰地区分了逻辑真理与事实真理。艾耶尔认为，逻辑真理是分析命题，事实真理是综合命题（彭漪涟，2010：9）。
