定义

“人的价值”，是人的存在与活动所具有的社会意义。人们对这一概念的提出及对这一概念的科学含义的认识，经历了一个漫长的历史过程（金炳华，2003：317）。在原始社会，没有也不可能形成明确的人的价值的观念。到了阶级社会，人们才意识到人的价值问题。古希腊的普罗塔哥拉和中国的荀子的相关论说，已经明示了人的价值、地位和作用。在奴隶主看来，人的价值由人的等级地位决定；封建地主阶级则认为人的价值主要是由“等级”、“门第”所决定。“君主政体的原则总的来说就是轻视人，蔑视人，使人不成其为人”（马克思等，1960：411）。资产阶级人道主义者针对封建宗教禁欲主义贬低人的价值、否定现实生活的意义，公开提出和颂扬人的尊严、人的价值，强调人是宇宙的精华，万物的灵长。但在资本主义社会，金钱决定人的价值。恩格斯指出，在资本主义社会里，金钱确定人的价值：这个人值一万英镑（he is worth ten thousand pounds），就是说，他拥有这样一笔钱。谁有钱，谁就“值得尊敬”，就属于“上等人”（the better sort of people），就“有势力”（influential），而且在他那个圈子里在各方面都是领头的（马克思等，1957：566）。马克思主义认为，认识社会化了的人，本质是“一切社会关系的总和”，人的价值只能在社会关系中表现出来。在社会主义条件下，人的价值在于：社会对个人的尊重和满足，个人对社会的责任和贡献。全面理解人的价值，必须包含这两个方面。对于个人来说，首先在于对社会的责任和贡献。一个对社会没有任何贡献的人，就是对社会没有价值的人；一个人对社会的贡献越大，他的价值就越高。这种价值即“人生价值”（齐振海等，1995：11）。人生价值的实现需要一定的客观条件和主观条件，只有正确认识和利用现实社会所提供的客观条件，不断提高个人的思想道德、文化素质和工作能力，充分发挥人的主观能动性，积极投身于社会主义建设的实践，把远大的理想和目标同脚踏实地的实干精神紧密结合起来，才能充分实现人的价值。
