定义

折旧是对固定资产由于耗损而发生的价值减少进行估值。固定资产可以在一个较长时期（寿命期）内连续发挥功能，其实物形体不变，使用效用也大致相同，但它的价值逐步递减。资产的最高价值接近于资产出厂时的价值，其最低价值为资产拆毁或当废品出售时的价值。固定资产价值减少的原因有两个：第一，设备的生产率随着设备使用年限而下降；第二，随着时间的推移，预期的厂房剩余盈利年限缩短。折旧概念的目的在于衡量老化引起的价值总积累（伊特韦尔等，1996：872）。固定资产按预定目的使用于经营过程情况下，其价值减少额必须逐渐地被吸收或者转移于生产产品或提供劳务的成本。为了保证再生产的正常继续进行，必须在产品销售以后，把那部分已经转移到新产品中去的固定资本的价值，以货币形式提取并积累起来，以便若干年后即在固定资本价值全部转移完毕时用于更新固定资本（折旧.via：
http://wiki.mbalib.com/wiki/%E6%8A%98%E6%97%A7）。这种资本的消耗被认为是生产成本，而在计算净利润时允许把它从总利润中扣除掉。美国注册公众会计师协会会计术语委员会对折旧所下的定义是：“折旧会计是一种会计方法，其目的在于按照一种系统和合理的方法，把有形资本资产减去残值（如果有的话）后的成本或其他基础价值，在资产项目（或资产类别）的估计有效寿命期间进行分配。”折旧要根据一定规则采用系统分配方式计算。主要的折旧计算方法有：直线法、产量法和加速折旧法，其中加速折旧法可分为年数总和法和定率—递减余额法（刘伟，1994：317）。（1）直线法，以年度为单位，吧固定资产取得成本（价值）均匀地分摊与整个寿命期，即：D=(C－S)×1n （其中D表示折旧，n表示固定资产使用年限，C表示取得成本（购置原价），S代表固定资产残值）；（2）产量法，按照固定资产预计可提供产品和劳务总数量与实际提供劳务数量的比例分配各该固定资产的转移价值，即，D=（C－S）×qQ （其中Q表示固定资产寿命期内预定的可生产产品或劳务总数量，q代表某一时期实际生产产品或劳务数量）；（3）加速折旧法，即固定资产在使用过程中，初期多计提折旧，随后逐期减少折旧，相对缩短固定资产折旧期限的折旧计算方法（胡代光等，1996：645）。
