定义

历史非决定论是一种主张社会历史过程是没有因果性、规律性、必然性的理论。历史非决定论主张人类社会的发展不是自然历史过程，社会历史是杂乱无章的偶然事件的堆积，或者是由神秘精神控制下某种联系和秩序的排列。任何社会现象都是独一无二的，历史不可重演，历史不能预言（巢峰，1997：88）。现代西方的一些学者极力否认社会历史规律的客观性、规律性，宣扬历史非决定论，其中最有代表性的是科学哲学家波普。他断言历史是没有规律可言的，历史规律只能被称作“假设”，那些主张历史发展具有规律性的理论仅是“历史循环论”。波普认为社会现象与自然现象不同，社会现象是无规律性的，因为“创造历史的人的行动受意志的支配，而人的意志是自由的；自然现象有重复性、可复制性，而任何社会现象都是独一无二的，只具有一维性，不可重演；关于历史发展的命题是综合的而非分析的，是单称的而非全称的，不具有普遍性和必然性”（金炳华等，2001：831）。历史非决定论者反对历史的机械决定论，有一定的合理性，但他们由此完全否定社会规律，最终必然导向历史唯心主义。
