定义

总体异化是西方马克思主义的异化观，指异化是一种普遍和永恒的现象。马尔库塞在《理性与革命》一书中首先提出，后为萨特、列斐伏尔和弗洛姆等人具体展开（金炳华，2003：964）。在霍克海默和阿道尔诺提出支配理论的基础上，马尔库塞承继法兰克福学派的文化批判、意识形态批判理路，对发达工业社会的工具理性、技术理性、人性衰落等展开批判，提出了独具特色的总体异化理论（徐海红，2013：86）。在马尔库塞看来，异化已经成为资本主义社会不可抗拒的普遍现象，它遍及人类社会生活的一切时段、领域。在时间上，自有人类劳动分工以来，就存在异化。在空间上，异化已经渗透到社会生活的一切方面，无论是劳动领域，还是消费、意识形态、心理、技术、语言、日常生活等各个领域，异化无时不在、无处不在（徐海红，2013：87）。在马克思的著作中，异化是一个哲学、经济学和社会学的概念。在《1844年经济学哲学手稿》中，马克思着重描述了私有制条件下劳动异化的表现，以此来揭示劳动产品即资本统治劳动的不合理现实。而马尔库塞认为马克思的异化理论“所阐述的并不仅仅是一个经济问题，这是人的异化、生命的贬损，人的实在的歪曲和丧失”。总体异化的提法，表达了法兰克福学派异化理论的特征（欧力同等，1990：216）。“1844-1846年间的马克思著作，认为现代社会中的劳动形式构成人的总体异化。对这个范畴的使用把马克思的经济分析同黑格尔哲学的一个基本范畴联系了起来。马克思说，社会劳动分工在实行时不考虑个人的天才和整体的利益，而完全按照资本主义商品生产的法则来进行。在这些法则下面，看来是劳动的产品、商品，在决定着人的活动的本质和格局。换言之，应当为生活服务的原材料，却统治了它的内容和目标。”在当时和后来，马尔库塞又引出诸如“总体革命”、“总体性社会主义”等范畴（徐崇温，2012：493）。总体异化虽有批判资本主义的意义，但它却把异化抽象化和绝对化，说成是超时空的，也有其片面性（金炳华，2003：964）。
