思维本性，又作主体意识，是指作为实践和认识主体的人对于自身的主体地位、主体能力和主体价值的一种自觉意识。是主体自觉能动性和创造性的观念表现。对主体地位的意识即意识到自己是周围一切存在物的主体，在人与物的关系中人处于主导和主动的地位，物处于被动、被支配的地位。对主体能力的意识即意识到自己有能力从自然中提升出来，成为主宰自己生活和其他自然物的主体。对主体价值的意识即意识到人是一切存在物中最有价值的存在，具有赋予物以价值的功能属性，人的价值是创造价值的价值，人能动地改变环境、超越环境，以求自我价值的实现。主体意识高于自我意识。自我意识是人对自身的属性、个性、状态、活动以及自身与外界关系的意识，是主体意识的基础和前提。主体意识则是自我意识的升华。自我意识属于自我的反思活动，它以自身为对象，要把自己与他物区别开来。当人类(包括个体、团体)对自己的属性、地位、能力、作用和价值等有了一定程度的认识以后，就形成了人类(包括群体和个体)的自我意识。在此基础上，人进一步形成了对自己与外部世界的关系中处于主导地位和支配作用的意识即主体意识（金炳华，2003: 186）。
