定义

《后工业社会的来临》industrial Society)美国贝尔著。1973年出版。对未来社会的预测是20世纪60年代以后讨论十分热烈的问题。该书把人类社会划分为初民社会、农业社会、工业社会、后工业社会。作者自称写作该书的目的是要建立一个适应后工业社会的社会学，因而该书具有纲领性特征、、认为后工业社会的特征是:(1)从产品生产业转变为服务性经济。认为工业国与其国民收入增加相适应，其大多数劳动力将转向服务业。(2)专业技术人员将处于主导地位。认为这是由于以前工业社会是人与机器的关系，而后工业社会则是人与人之间的关系，因而要由专业人员领导一般的服务人员。(3)理论知识处于社会的中心地位，它将成为社会革新的依据。认为专业性、技术性、科学性集团的成长，使其成员成了社会发展的决策阶层。(4)未来的技术发展是有计划、有节制的，重视技术评价的作用。认为由于知识大爆炸，科学先于技术，技术先于工业，所以首先要抓住科学来推动技术，而工业生产已成为次要的了。(5)制定政策依赖于新的智能技术。认为这是由于要达到持续发展就应必须要以智能为主要力量。该书认为转入后工业社会是21世纪各工业社会大国在社会结构方面的基本特征。（金炳华，2003:1066）
