20世纪20年代出现的反对帝国主义利用基督教对中国进行文化侵略的爱国运动。1922年3月，中国社会主义青年团在上海组织了“非基督教学生同盟”，发起“非基督教运动”，推动青年和广大群众反对帝国主义利用宗教侵略中国。随后，北京等地纷起响应。1924年8月中国共产党在上海组织了“非基督教大同盟”，并于《民国报》副刊《觉悟》出版《非基督教特刊》，以指导和联络各地的非基督教运动（高占祥，1994：343）。运动迅速扩展到国内外，前后持续了六、七个月之久。这期间，《中国青年》、《先驱》和《觉悟》不断发表陈独秀、恽代英、肖楚女等人的文章，从政治上、经济上和哲学思想上揭露宗教的本质，指出了宗教“倡为各种神灵以作解说，实在障碍人类进化”。宣传了唯物主义和无神论（金炳华等，2001：358）。非宗教运动又称非基督教运动。非宗教运动的起因是基于列强对于中国的侵略，而基督教被认为在其中充当了不光彩的角色。因此，从时代救亡的主题来看，非宗教运动有其合法性基础；而五四新文化运动中所张扬的“民主”与“科学”等原则，也为反对者提供了学理上的支持（朱晓江，2015：115）。这一运动打击了帝国主义利用基督教所进行的文化侵略，提高了爱国主义觉悟（蔡鸿源等，2012：289）。
