定义

充分条件亦称“充足条件”。当事物有情况p，就必定有事物情况q时，p就是q的充分条件（金炳华，冯契，2001：170），即如果命题“若A则B”成立，就说A是使B成立的充分条件，同时B是使A成立的必要条件。例如“如果物体摩擦，那么物体会生热”，“如果m2是偶数，则m是偶数”。其中“物体摩擦”是“物体生热”的充分条件，“m2是偶数”是“m是偶数”的充分条件；再如，在命题“如果a，b中至少有一个等于零，那么ab＝o”中，a，b中至少有一为零是ab=0成立的既充分又必要的条件，这个充分必要条件可以简称为充要条件。但在命题“如果a＝0，那么ab=0”中，a=0是ab＝0成立的充分条件，但不是必要条件。又命题“ab＝0则a＝0”中，ab=0是a=0成立的必要条件，但不是充分条件。在数学中，充要条件常用“当且仅当”表示，例如“ab=0成立当且仅当a，b中至少有一为零”。充分必要条件，还可以理解为原命题和它的逆命题同时成立（实用百科全书编委会，1993：1137）。
