定义

人性指区别于其他事物的本质规定性（徐少锦等，1999：18），人的自然属性和社会属性的统一。人类很早就探索自己的本性。中国古代哲学曾提出过人性善、人性恶、人性有善有恶、人性无善无恶等观点。欧洲文艺复兴后，资产阶级为反对封建专制曾提出过个性解放为主要内容的人性论，认为全人类有共同的永恒的人性。他们或者认为人性就是追求自由、平等、利己、享乐，或者把人的饮食、男女等自然属性当成是普遍的人性。马克思主义产生以前的各种关于人性的观点，由于历史和阶级的局限，都是非科学的，但为人性的研究积累了丰富的材料。马克思主义承认人性的存在，认为“人的本质并不是单个人所固有的抽象物，实际上，它是一切社会关系的总和”（马克思等，1956：5）。人性是具体的、历史的，正如马克思所指出的：“整个历史也无非是人类本性的不断改变而已”（马克思等，1958：174）。马克思主义第一次对人性做了科学解释。它认为人的自然性和社会属性密切相关，自然属性社会属性的生理基础，社会属性使自然属性带上了社会性。但体现人的本质的是社会属性。人性具有历史性，随着社会发展的变化而变化。不同时代人的人性并不完全相同。总之，只有具体的人性，没有抽象的人性（黄楠森等，1993：29-30）。
