定义

《资本主义的文化矛盾》由当代美国思想家贝尔著，1976年出版。全书分为两部分，共六章。第一部分为“现代性的双重羁绊”，包括四章：第一章“资本主义的文化矛盾”，第二章“文化话语的断裂”，第三章“20世纪60年代文化情绪”，第四章“走向伟大复兴：后工业时代的宗教和文化”。第二部分为“政治的困境”，包括五、六两章：第五章“动荡的美国：国家危机中的暂时和永久因素”，第六章“公共家庭：论‘财政社会学’和自由社会”。该书探讨了现代资本主义文化的本质、成长及文化在发达工业社会正在经历的变化。认为当代资本主义社会所面对的最大挑战在于追求利益的“合理性”与个人自我价值及情感之间的矛盾（金炳华，2003：1066）。
