指处理各阶级内部、阶级与阶级之间、民族与民族之间、国家与国家之间各种关系的社会活动，其表现形式为：代表一定阶级的政党、社会集团、社会势力和国家政权机关，利用自己持有的主张、策略和其他政治手段，协调、影响、控制国家内部生活和国家外部关系。政党、政权机关、军队、警察、法庭、监狱是社会政治生活的实体性因素，被称为政治法律设施；政权组织形式、立法、司法、宪法等规章和准则是社会政治生活的概念性因素，被称为政治法律制度。两者相互关联，构成了社会政治结构。政党在社会政治生活中作用重大，它是一定阶级或阶层，按其自身利益，直接参与或影响国家政权的政治活动。国家政权是社会政治生活的核心内容,任何阶级或政治团体开展政治行动都是为了争取国家政权；同时，国家政权也直接利用军队、警察、法庭、监狱等政治法律设施和各种政治法律制度对社会各阶级、各政治团体及全体社会成员实行强制性控制（李淮春，1996：583）。另一方面，政治生活是人们在公共生活之中，并通过公共生活来影响人类资源分配的活动。“公共生活是政治生活的方式和基本条件，它综合体现为人们共有的媒介与话语，共有的地域与空间，共有的规则与习惯，共有的问题与难题，等等”（商红日，2004：21）。社会政治生活是社会生活的组成部分，它与经济生活、文化生活紧密相连，构成有机整体。社会政治生活、文化生活以社会经济生活为基础，同时又反作用于社会经济生活。
