脱离群众是政党执政后的最大最严重的危险。这是列宁1922年1月12日在《工会在新经济政策条件下的作用和任务》一文中提出的重要观点。他说：“对于一个人数不多的共产党来说，对于领导一个大国向社会主义过渡的工人阶级先锋队来说，最大最严重的危险之一，就是脱离群众（列宁，1995：589）。”列宁这样尖锐地提出问题一是因为能否密切联系群众关系到党的性质。列宁说：“我们需要的是新型的党，另一种性质的党。我们需要的是能够经常同群众保持真正联系的党，善于领导这些群众的党（列宁，1963：224）。”二是因为密切联系群众是党不可战胜的力量源泉。列宁指出：“劳动群众拥护我们。我们的力量就在这里。全世界共产主义运动不可战胜的根源就在这里（列宁，1995：589）。”三是因为执政党容易产生骄傲自大，由此而脱离群众。十月革命以后，列宁清醒地看到了这一点，严肃地指出：“我们党目前也许会陷入十分危险的境地，即变得骄傲自大起来（列宁，1963：354）。”四是因为俄国处于一个不发达的资本主义国家。在这样的国家进行革命和建设，容易产生急躁情绪，搞“左”的政策，因而脱离群众。列宁在这里讲的主要是指先锋队没有从群众的觉悟程度出发，“往前跑得太远，没有‘拉平战线’，没有同全体劳动大军，即同大多数工农群众保持牢固的联系（列宁，1995：589）。”习近平同志在十八届中共中央政治局第一次集体学习时指出：“始终植根人民、造福人民，始终保持党同人民群众的血肉联系，始终与人民心连心、同呼吸、共命运（习近平，2012：12）。”这一理论是对毛泽东“一切为了群众，一切依靠群众，从群众中来，到群众中去”的群众观的继承和发扬，是中国共产党对马克思列宁主义关于人民群众是历史创造者原理在自己全部活动中的创造性运用，是党无比宝贵历史经验的科学总结，也是防止党脱离人民群众的根本理论指导。
