生产力的发展引起生产关系的变动，生产力的变动引起所有制的运动（宋保仁，2013：132）。“我认为，所谓‘社会主义社会’不是一种一成不变的东西，而应当和任何其他社会制度一样，把它看成是经常变化和改革的社会”（马克思等，1971：443）。“我们的根本任务已经由解放生产力变为在新的生产关系下面保护和发展生产力”（毛泽东，1999：234）。“社会主义的本质，是解放生产力，发展生产力，消灭剥削，消除两极分化，最终达到共同富裕”（邓小平，1993：373），“科学技术是第一生产力”（邓小平，1993：274），“改革是中国发展生产力的必由之路”（邓小平，1993：136）。生产力的发展是为了人民群众的根本利益，生产力的发展要依靠人民群众，生产力发展的成果要由人民群众来共享（宋保仁，2013：56）。生产关系一定要适应生产力发展的原理告诉我们，生产力决定生产关系。有什么样的生产力，就要求有什么样的生产关系与之相适应；生产关系的变革，也是生产力发展的结果。生产关系对生产力的发展具有反作用。当生产关系同生产力相适应时，就促进生产力的发展；当生产关系不适应生产力的状况时，就阻碍了生产力的发展。生产关系一定要适应生产力发展要求是马克思主义政治经济学的一条基本规律（李炳炎，2012：80-81）。生产力的性质和水平都说明生产力发展的状况，从这个意义上讲，二者是统一的。但是，同任何事物一样，生产力也有自己质的规定性和量的规定性，它们之间又是有区别的（刘贤奇等，1997：111）。
