定义

马克思用语。与“现实的个人”相对，“抽象的个人”（abstract individual）指抽去了个人所处的现实历史条件和社会关系中的人类个体，是用某些局部经验的、或思辨理性的、或外部直观的特征定义的个人。现实生活中的个人是具体的、真实的，而抽象的个人则是人的思维进行片面抽象的产物，在现实生活中是不存在的（罗国杰，1993：100）。近代欧洲思想家将摆脱了自然联系的、处于资本主义自由竞争社会中的原子子式的个人，看成是符合人类天性的人类个体的理想状态（金炳华，冯契，2001：211）。“庸俗唯物主义把人归结为人的胡须、血液及肉体感受性；机械唯物主义把个人理解为由各个不同构件组装的机器；人本主义把个人的本质看成是纯粹自然地联系起来的“类本性”；客观唯心主义则把个人当作绝对理念自我运动的外化物”（罗国杰，1993：100）。马克思指出，这种似乎“合乎自然的”个人，实际上是封建社会解体的产物；“抽象的个人”的概念是历史的结果，而非历史的起点，因为摆脱了自然联系的“孤立的个人”并没有摆脱特定的历史的社会关系，相反，“产生这种孤立个人的观点的时代，正是具有迄今为止最发达的社会关系的时代”（马克思，恩格斯，1995：25）。在资本主义社会中，社会关系，对于个人来说，只是达到私人目的的手段，因而，“抽象的个人”实际上是利己主义的个人在观念上的反映。马克思用作为历史的现实前提和唯物史观的出发点的“现实的个人”取代了“抽象的个人”（金炳华，冯契，2001：211）。
