定义

亦称“新民主主义革命”，指在帝国主义和无产阶级革命的时代，殖民地半殖民地国家的无产阶级领导的民主革命。中国共产党在第一次国内革命战争时期就明确提出了新民主主义革命的思想。1939年毛泽东在《中国革命和中国共产党》中正式称中国革命为“新民主主义革命”，1940年1月在《新民主主义论》中作了系统阐述。在帝国主义和无产阶级革命时代，“任何殖民地半殖民地国家，如果发生了反对帝国主义，即反对国际资产阶级、反对国际资本主义的革命，它就不再是属于旧的世界资产阶级民主主义革命的范畴，而属于新的范畴了；它就不再是旧的资产阶级和资本主义的世界革命的一部分，而是新的世界革命的一部分，即无产阶级社会主义世界革命的一部分了”（毛泽东，1952：668）。革命的主要任务是反对帝国主义和封建主义。要完成这一历史任务，在政治上、经济上和文化上都要进行革命。中国革命的第一步是变半封建半殖民地社会为新民主主义社会；第二步是进行社会主义革命，使新民主主义社会转变为社会主义社会。金炳华，2003：807）。新民主主义革命和社会主义革命是两个不同发展阶段上的不同性质的革命。新民主主义革命是社会主义革命的准备，社会主义革命是新民主主义革命的必然趋势。就中国近代历史而言，1840鸦片战争至1919年五四运动为旧民主主义革命，国内的矛盾是帝国主义与中华民族的矛盾以及封建主义与人民大众的矛盾。这一时期，社会各界为争取民族解放进行了不屈不挠的斗争：农民阶级发动了义和团运动，资产阶级改良派发动了维新变法，资产阶级革命派发动了辛亥革命并最终推翻清政府结束了中国两千多年的封建专制。资产阶级队伍的不断壮大，民族资产阶级的不断发展，为后来的新民主主义革命提供了阶级基础和物质基础。1919年之后则为新民主主义革命。中国从1919年“五四”运动开始新民主主义革命，直到中华人民共和国成立初期完成。“这一过程可具体划分为五四运动与国民革命、土地革命、抗日战争解放战争等四个时期”（王慕民，1999：3）。中国共产党自1921年成立以来，领导着全国各界人民争取民族独立和国家富强，始终是党和国家的坚强领导核心。1949年中华人民共和国的成立确立了工人阶级领导的以工农联盟为基础的人民民主专政，为新中国向社会主义过渡奠定了政治基础。
