定义

古希腊毕达哥拉斯的伦理学主张。认为数是万物的基础、实体，是真实的存在，没有数就没有世界上万物的秩序与和谐。社会中的一切道德规范均可还原为数，如公正就是“同次相等的数”，它就是永远与自身同一的东西。维持一切现存的秩序，保持不变，就是道德上的公正。强调社会秩序的和谐与不变，个人则应通过苦行去欲成为一个和谐的“小宇宙”。柏拉图继承这一观点，提出道德上的完善，在个人方面就是使灵魂中理智控制意志和欲望达到和谐，在社会方面就是使统治者、武士和生产者三个等级各安其位、各谋其职，建立秩序和谐的理想国。在古希腊末期和罗马时期，斯多亚派进一步发展了这一观点，认为宇宙是由神控制下的有秩序的和谐统一体，人是灵魂克制欲望的、和谐的“小宇宙”，人应与宇宙目的协调行动，即服从神和统治者，这才是道德上的至善（金炳华等，2001：974）。在西方伦理思想史上，毕达哥拉斯是第一个试图从理论上研究道德的思想家。毕达哥拉斯的著名格言“什么是最美的——和谐”，体现了他的伦理观。“美德即和谐”是其伦理思想的核心。他认为，人在本质上也和万物及宇宙一样，是由肉体和灵魂构成的和谐的“小宇宙”，“整个的天是一个和谐”，“一切都是和谐的”，所以“美德乃是一种和谐”（北京大学哲学系，1957：36-37）。
