法国德里达为批判福山（Francis Fuknyama）美化现代资本主义的论调而在《马克思的幽灵》一书中提出的一个概念。德里达认为，福山断言现代资本主义的自由民主制度体现了人类历史上最进步的理念，是建立在黑格尔—基督教的唯心主义历史观基础之上的，而这种历史观的实质是一种“超历史标准的唯心主义”。首先，福山所求助的超历史的标准，即用以衡量任何政治制度好坏的标准，就是“人之为人”，即人的本质；其次，这种把抽象的人性作为超历史的标准的做法，早为马克思所批判。马克思在《德意志意识形态》等著作中已对抽象的人的概念作了深刻而丰富的批判。德里达认为，为福山所推崇的这种以超历史的标准为基础的自由民主的理念实际上只是一种承诺，它只是命令“永远不会存在的事物以完全在场的形式来临”，留给人们的是“遥遥无期的期待”。人们如果真的把这种理念作为指路明灯，那必然是“把我们当作是瞎子来为我们指引方向”。因而从这种“超历史标准的唯心主义”无法引申出现代资本主义的自由民主制度具有普遍性和先进性的结论（金炳华，2003：1043）。
