德国莱布尼茨用语。莱布尼茨认为宇宙间不存在任何绝对的间断性，一切都是连续的。运动在本质上即为运动的物体不停地处于连续的各种空间位置。由这个原则可以推论出：(1)运动与静止不存在绝对界限，运动停止时，作为运动根源的“力”仍存于物体中；(2)生与死不存在绝对界限，两者相互包含，没有真正的生，也没有真正的死；(3)物质的存在是连续的，自然界无真空，反对牛顿的绝对空间论；(4)种属的存在是连续的，各种属之间无绝对界限，植物与动物之间必然存在中介生物；(5)单子的存在是连续的，每两个相邻等级的单子之间有无数中介单子；(6)单子总是处于连续的变化之中，而这种连续的变化又总是表现为每一单子在其知觉能力的高低或清晰程度上的量的连续不断的变化，而不存在突然的间断性的质变；(7)事物间发生的任何作用都是连续而不间断的，因而一切物体都直接或间接地感受到宇宙中所发生的一切。莱布尼茨的连续性原则与其普遍差异原则相结合，构成其世界发展的辩证法思想（金炳华等，2001：843-844）。连续性原则也可指思想政治工作的原则。即思想政治工作在任何情况下都不能中断，必须连续不断地进行。人们思想的变化，包括思想问题的解决，认识的转变，觉悟的提高，是一个连续不断的过程，旧的问题解决了，又会出现新的问题。进行思想政治工作，必须遵循思想发展的规律，通过长期的、坚持不懈的努力，逐步提高人们的思想觉悟和认识能力；必须防止和反对急于求成和一劳永逸的思想（汝信，1992：910）。
