The sheet music is over ninety characters long with no ballad lines or lyrics accompanying it. The title is not recorded in the book An Account of Girl Entertainers, by Cui Lingqin of the Tang Dynasty. Ren Erbei doubts in his “Preliminary Discussion on the Musical Notation of Dunhuang” that it is another name for the elegant musical score “Song of the Fabled Residence” of the Tang Dynasty. Other researchers believe the confusion arises because in Chinese “song of seeking wealth” and “song of the fabled residence” are homophones. Other detailed information about the song is unknown. |
