梵语，译为“人非人”、“疑神”，是“天龙八部”中的“乐神”和“歌神”，形象似人而头上生有角，故名“人非人”，能以种种微妙音乐、歌舞欢娱。男性紧那罗马首人身，能歌；女性紧那罗容貌端庄，善舞。

It is one of the Eight Divisions of Dragons and Devas which denotes a kind of mythical celestial musician whose body is part god, part human, and part animal. The meaning of kiṃ is that of an expression of doubt, while nara means "human." Thus the meaning is that of "dubious human", or "human yet not human". The male Kinnara has a horse-like head with one horn, and a body like that of a human. The female gets good looks. The males sing, and the females dance to the wonderfully sublime music that they make.
