定义

“爱国统一战线”这一概念是在1981年6月中共十一届六中全会通过的《关于建国以来党的若干历史问题的决议》中明确提出来的。我国的爱国统一战线，在不同的历史时期随着阶级关系和中心任务的变化有着不同的内容。在民主革命时期，共产党领导的统一战线，在动员和团结全国人民反对国内外敌人的斗争中，发挥了重要的作用。建国初期的人民民主统一战线，是工人阶级领导的、以工农联盟为基础的全体劳动者同民族资产阶级以及其他可以团结的非劳动者的联盟。新的历史时期，爱国统一战线指我国人民在社会主义建设中形成的广泛的政治联盟。我国在社会主义的长期革命和建设实践中，形成了由中国共产党领导的有各民主党派和各人民团体参加的包括全体社会主义的劳动者、拥护社会主义的爱国者和拥护祖国统一的爱国者的广泛联盟。社会主义的建设事业必须依靠工人、农民和知识分子在内的全体劳动者和爱国者，团结一切可以团结的力量，组织成爱国统一战线。这个统一战线的巩固和发展，在进行社会主义现代化建设、维护国家统一和团结的斗争中，发挥着重要作用（夏征农，1985：533）。新时期的爱国统一战线的任务是：“调动一切积极因素，努力化消极因素为积极因素，团结一切可以团结的力量，同心同德，群策群力，为把我国建设成为现代化社会主义强国，为完成祖国统一大业，为维护世界和平而共同斗争”（廖盖隆，1993：938）。
