Sitting Musicians

定义

唐代宫廷乐舞的两大类别之一。因演奏者坐于堂上，规模较小 ，舞者 3～12人，故名。等级比立部伎高，技巧难度也较高。创于唐太宗时期，安史之乱后日趋消亡。

This was one of the two major categories of court music and dance during the Tang Dynasty. It is so named because it was done by a small number of performers sitting on a platform in the hall, with normally three to twelve dancers. The status of sitting musicians was higher than that of standing musicians, and thus their skills were required to be of a higher level. It was initiated during Emperor Taizong’s reign during the Tang Dynasty and gradually disappeared after the An Lushan Rebellion.
