价值悬设，（1）在主张哲学是一种科学体系的学者眼里，是一种先验的逻辑设定，因为它首先假定了主体的理想状态，或抽象的本来状态，然后要求现实的不完满的主体去趋向这一非历史的主体本质；（2）在主张哲学是一个意义的、价值的世界的人文主义者眼里，它是人类为了自己超越自己而假定的一个新的高度，它经常是这种价值哲学的理论逻辑出发点。（3）某种预设的价值概念。例如，“人的类本质”、“自由自觉的活动”或其它一些理想化的本质规定，超验的东西呢，还是由于人们意识到自身的“异化”处境而给自己设置的一种理想状态？也就是说，它并不是一种与经验无关的东西，相反，它也是一种来自经验又欲超越现实的东西。人本主义哲学的批评者毫不含糊地指出，这种以先验理想本质引导现实存在的逻辑先导式是人本主义的哲学结构（洪强强，1999：50）。理想化、先验的价值设定，例如“人权”、“自由”是历史地形成与发展起来的，并不是从来就有的，内涵是不断发展中丰富起来的。但是，理想化、先验的价值设定也具有合理积极的意义。例如“人权”、“自由”、“民主”对于“神权”的对抗是和压迫平民的利益吻合的，虽然反映这些价值观念的概念具有神秘化、神圣化的色彩，但是在特殊历史条件下其圣神、不可剥夺的意味更加具有至高无上、不可置疑的号召力。
