德国海德格尔用语。它是人的“在”的各种方式的统称。他认为人这种“在者”与其他“在者”的区别在于，人是以领悟自身之在的方式而在的，人所特有的这种在的方式被称为生存（Existenz）。人是以在世中（存在于世界之中）的结构而展开其生存过程的，其中，作为人的本己的可能的生存能力称为生存质（Existential），它是本体论性质的。作为这种生存能力的实现的日常状态称为生存态（Existentiell），它是“在者”性质的。生存状态包括生存质和生存态。由于生存质必实现为日常的生存态，世界之为世界和实现在日常中的自我的面目都是生存态。因此，可经由日常的生存态追溯各种生存质，即追溯各种“在”的方式，以期达到对一般的“在”的意义的把握。这一过程称为生存状态分析（金炳华等，2001：1300）。生存状态分析是要探溯哲学的源头，说明哲学的“本质”，并进一步对中西哲学的不同形态作出解说。根据这个目标，生存状态分析可分两步：第一步，通过分别对作为事实的中国哲学和西方哲学的分析，追溯那种哲学所从出的生存方式及共同的生存结构。第二步，从共同的生存结构中可能具有的不同生存方式出发，解说中西哲学的不同形态（俞宣孟，2004：79）。中国哲学，无论儒、道、释，都把人生的原始起源作为主题，并把这个起源归结为混沌未分的状态，一切人生现象都是从“彼-我”这个结构中展现出来的。哲学则是对这个展现的过程和方式的反思，或者说，哲学是人对自身生存方式的反思。
