“Karma Story of Nanda’s Initiation into Buddhism”

唐代因缘类作品。叙述佛弟子难陀贪恋娇妻，不愿出家。世尊带难陀游历天宫，见有天女等待难陀出家为夫；又游地狱，见有汤镬等待难陀煎煮，难陀因而感悟出家。

A karma story, known as yuanqi or yinyuan in Chinese, from the late Tang Dynasty. According to the story, Nanda, a disciple of the Buddha, was unwilling to become a monk because of his attachment to his beautiful wife. On learning this, the Buddha first took Nanda on a trip to heaven where beautiful celestial nymphs were waiting to accompany Nanda after his ordination; then the Buddha took Nanda to the underworld where Nanda saw a pot ready to boil ghosts. At that point, Nanda became inspired and then joined the Sangha (community of monks and nuns).
