Mogao Cave 417: Sculptures of Attendant Bodhisattvas

莫高窟第417窟龛外南北两侧各塑一身供养菩萨。坐在莲花台上，右手托腮，左手抚腿，呈思惟状。面带笑容，神形俱佳，是隋代彩塑精品。

The shrine in Mogao Cave 417 is flanked on the north and south sides by statues of two attendant Bodhisattvas whose duties include assisting with offerings made to the Buddha and with preaching the Dharma. They cup their chins in the right hand, giving the appearance of being lost in thought as they sit on their lotus bases. Their serene, smiling faces and regal bearing make them classics of Sui-style painted sculpture.
