定义

即承认世界是物质的，物质是第一性，意识是第二性，在此基础上用辩证法的法则看问题和解决问题，即是辩证唯物主义的方法论。首先，辩证唯物论认为世界的本质是物质，先有物质后有意识，物质决定意识，意识是物质的反映。与此相应形成一切从实际出发，实事求是的辩证唯物主义方法论。其次，辩证唯物论认为意识对物质具有能动作用，意识对改造客观世界具有指导作用，正确的意识对事物的发展有促进作用，错误的意识对事物的发展有阻碍作用。与此相应的方法论为重视意识的作用，重视精神的力量，自觉树立正确的思想意识，克服错误的思想意识。中共中央政治局2015年1月23日下午就辩证唯物主义基本原理和方法论进行集体学习。习近平在主持学习时指出，今天，十八届中央政治局进行2015年第一次集体学习，学习内容是辩证唯物主义基本原理和方法论。习近平强调，准确把握我国不同发展阶段的新变化新特点，使主观世界更好符合客观实际，按照实际决定工作方针，这是我们必须牢牢记住的工作方法。辩证唯物主义并不否认意识对物质的反作用，而是认为这种反作用有时是十分巨大的。我们党始终把思想建设放在党的建设第一位，强调“革命理想高于天”，就是精神变物质、物质变精神的辩证法（中国领导科学，2015：4）。
